- Describe the anatomy and function of the peripheral vascular system.
- Differentiate between types of PVADs.
- Recognize the role of short peripheral IV catheters (PIVC) and peripheral midlines
- Explain criteria for vein selection.
- Identify difficult veins and alternative approaches
- Discuss infection prevention measures, including hand hygiene and skin preparation
- Demonstrate step-by-step IV catheter insertion.
- Discuss troubleshooting techniques to improve success rate in IV access.
- Perform IV catheter insertion on mannequins under instructor supervision; Receive feedback and improve technique
- Identify potential complications (e.g., infiltration, phlebitis)
- Discuss interventions for complication management
